Speak to a trusted adult

Sometimes it can be hard to speak about the things that are worrying us, and that’s OK.

If you are scared, worried, sad or unsure about something you can speak to a trusted adult who will listen to you and your thoughts, while respecting your feelings.

Who is a trusted adult?

A trusted adult could be:

  • A parent or guardian
  • A friend's parent
  • Brother or sister
  • Grandparents
  • Carer

Or someone who works with young people, such as:

  • A youth worker
  • A teacher
  • Social worker
  • Counsellor

When you’re speaking to these people about a problem, tell them if there are certain things you don’t want them to share with anyone else. But remember, they have a duty to keep you and others safe and to do this they may need to give information to other people.
