Coram Beanstalk - West Yorkshire Branch

Coram Beanstalk is a national children's literacy charity.

We have volunteers working in schools in West Yorkshire and welcome new applications from the area. In the last school year we helped 13,400 children across England, in 1,200 schools through the help of approximately 3,700 reading helpers and our aim is to ensure that every child we support has the skills and confidence to reach their true potential and shape their own lives.

Our Trained Reading Helpers work with three children, one-to-one, twice a week for 30 minutes each. They aim to inspire children and improve their confidence by giving them choices, making the sessions fun, and providing every opportunity to succeed. Our volunteers can be anyone aged 16+ who likes children, enjoys reading and is able to commit to helping 1.5 hours, 2 afternoons per week for at least 12 months. Our target group is children aged 5 to 11yrs.

Volunteers can find out more and apply on-line at http://www.beanstalkcharity.org.uk or call on 0207 729 4087. When we receive your application we will contact you by phone to discuss it further. Placement in a school is dependent on successful completion of an initial full day's training, satisfactory references and a DBS certificate.
