BDCT Mental Health Support Team
Who is the Mental Health Support team for?
We work on a 1:1 or group basis with children and young people who are presenting with mild to moderate mental health difficulties. We have a variety of interventions which are suitable for young people aged 5-18.
We also work with parents/carers for several interventions including parent led CBT (cognitive behavioural therapy), family therapy, parent support groups and our parenting programme for conduct problems.
As well as 1:1 and group interventions, we implement a whole school approach within our allocated schools working with all staff, parents/carers, and pupils. We work closely with schools to help them identify social, emotional, and mental health issues as early as possible. We can also offer assemblies, workshops, and staff training.
What support do we offer?
We have practitioners from different professional backgrounds who can offer a range of support tailored to need. A proportion of our workforce are trained in cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT) and can offer a variety of short-term interventions, including but not limited to treatment for:
- Low mood
- General anxiety
- Separation anxiety
- Anger and irritability
- Sleep difficulties
- Panic
- Phobias
What other support do we offer?
Specialist practitioners within the team can also offer longer term interventions, including but not limited to:
- Family relationships
- Confidence and self-esteem
- Parenting
- Health anxiety
- OCD
- Mood disorders or problems related to emotional health and well being
- School related difficulties
- Friendship, relationship difficulties
- Referral support onto other services
Where do we work?
We support young people who are registered to one of our designated schools in the Bradford, Keighley, and Craven districts.
We aim to see a young person face to face in their school, but in times where this is not possible, at a time and place that suits. This can include home visits or clinics elsewhere (for example a GP surgery, children’s centre etc.) If that’s not possible, we can contact you through video or telephone call. We want to make mental health support as accessible as possible and will try our hardest to ensure you can reach us.
How to be referred to the Mental Health Support team
To be referred to the Mental Health Support team, the child or young person must be registered at one of our designated schools. If you are a parent, the first point of call is to contact your child’s school and speak to a member of staff who can speak to the team. Children and young people can also speak directly to the team and parents/carers can contact the team via the email address provided.
